After unveiling the Snapdragon 845 mobile platform yesterday, Qualcomm today has thrown light on the features of its flagship processor. The new chipset comes with features that enhance security and battery life. Apart from these two factors, the Snapdragon 845 chipset focusses on artificial intelligence and immersion. In addition to this, the mobile platform has support for Qualcomm’s latest gigabit LTE.
The Kryo 385 CPU of the chip includes four performance cores up to 2.8GHz, which means that Snapdragon 845 will perform at least 25% more than its predecessor.
The newly launched mobile platform will also be saving 30% more battery than Snapdragon 835 because the performance cores are coupled with four efficiency cores clocked at 1.8GHz. The new chipset has support for Quick Charge 4, and according to Qualcomm, it can take battery level of a smartphone from 0 to 50% in 15 minutes.
Another big feature of Snapdragon 845 is the ability to capture 4K video in HDR at up to 60 frames per seconds. Slo-mo videos of 720p can be recorded at 480 frames per second, whereas those of 1080p can be recorded at frames per second.
Besides this, Snapdragon 845 comes with Spectra 280 ISP, which Qualcomm claims will let smartphones capture Ultra HD premium shots, reduce multi-frame noise, and will enable ImMotion computational photography.
The Snapdragon 845 comes coupled with Adreno 630 GPU, which according to Qualcomm results in 30% better graphics, 30% improved power efficiency, and 2.5x faster display throughput.
And for the very first time, Qualcomm has added a physically separate processor on its chipset called as the ‘Secure Processing Unit.’ The Secure Processing Unit stores information like the users’ biometrics scans. Since use of biometrics is increasingly becoming popular, this feature has been added to enhance security.
